Time to say goodbye

We were so sad to say good-bye to three of our lovely ladies today. Between them, they have spent many years supporting the children and staff at Friars and are now starting their very well deserved retirement. Mrs Bowler has been a super LSA and has had a great impact on the lives of the children she has supported – she is never without a smile and a kind word. Mrs West has greeted parents and tended to the needs of children and staff. She has been an integral part of our office, as well as a brilliant first-aider. Mrs Bridgeman has worked in our kitchen and the children and staff have always had service with a smile. We have valued them all and wish them all a wonderful retirement!

Year 6 awards

We are exceptionally proud of all of our Year 6 children. They have all worked so hard this year and it has been a pleasure seeing them reach their potential. We would like to make particular mention to a few children who have either shown outstanding progress or achievement in a particular area. Well done to the following children: Charlie, Michael, Louis, Sofi, Lily, Alex, Braelyn, Kieran, Katie and Matthew.

100% attendance

A huge well done goes to all of our children who managed to achieve 100% attendance this year. They received a voucher for Kids Kingdom in reward for their exceptional effort all year.

Well done Kyla

We wanted to say a big well done to Kyla who came to school today with a fantastic new haircut. Her new hair was not simply due to her wanting a new style. We were very proud to hear that Kyla had donated her hair to a charity which makes hair pieces for children suffering from cancer who have lost theirs' due to their treatment. It is a very commendable thing to do. Well done, Kyla.

Super Sports Stars

We are very proud of the sporting achievements of the children of Friars and we continue to have reason to be. Well done to everybody who took part in Super Sports at Shoebury. The event was organised for the top performers in the Borough Sports to compete against each other. All of the children did superbly well and should be very proud of themselves. We would like to highlight the four individuals pictured for their particular achievements. Cameron and Hannah both achieved 3rd place in their events and Sofi and Tyler walked away with 1st! Great work!

KS2 Celebration Assembly

Well done to our certificate winners this week. We even had the whole of Year 6 at the front as they have all been working so hard. Congratulations go to 5L for winning the Attendance Cup and to Caernarfon for winning BOTH House Cups this week. They are only 2 wins behind Windsor with 1 week to go! Remember to keep handing in your fantasticos! KS2 Caernarfon 25 Stirling 23 Windsor 19 Stormont 18

KS2 Celebration Assembly

Well done to everybody who received certificates this week. Stirling did well this week and won the House Trophy in both Key Stages. Congratulations also go to 4T for winning the attendance cup. House Cup Stirling 27 Caernarfon 20 Windsor 18 Stormont 14

KS1 Celebration Assembly

It was lovely to be joined by the reception classes this morning in assembly. The children continue to amaze us with their hard work and perseverance. The ‘Attendance Cup’ was awarded to 2R as they achieved 98% attendance this week. Well done! Year 2 performed their year group assembly to their parents/carers and grandparents. They were taken on a journey starting with Ancient Greece, the Crimean War and the sinking of the Titanic. They ended with the present day, with a review of their learning relating to their school trip to Colchester Zoo. The children spoke confidently and sang beautifully. The audience was thoroughly entertained. Well done Year 2! You made us all very proud!
