Equality & Diversity award

We are delighted that Friars has gained the Enhanced Healthy School’s Award and certificate and the Equality and Diversity Award. We gained these awards for our commitment to health, fitness and well-being. Our work on how everyone should be treated as an equal continues at Friars. We have our fantastic Year 6 play leaders; our post boxes for worries in Key Stage 1 and 2; equality and diversity assemblies; a new child-friendly anti-bullying policy; surveys across the school on behaviour and a programme of work on health and fitness. The ceremony was attended by twelve other schools, the local authority Director of Learning and the Mayor! Paige, Suhailah, Billy and Shane from Year 6 gave a wo

Remembrance service

On Friday 10th November, we held our remembrance service. This was led by our wonderful Year 6, who shared information on the many wars that have taken place and are still taking place around the world. A video was shown on the Invictus Games and the difference this makes to people’s lives who have been injured in war. The children were silent for 2 minutes to pay their respects to those in the past and more recently, who have suffered through war. Many children purchased poppies and other merchandise to support those injured.

Children In Need

Today was ‘Children in Need’ and what a day it was. We had the children dressing up, doing ‘their thing.’ Their outfits included equestrians, football fans, Harry Potter fans, gamers and it wouldn’t be the same without several Pudsey Bears. All the children were able to participate in the basketball shoot out, with the children who scored the most goals winning a Pudsey Bear wrist band. Each year group also had a variety of Pudsey Bear merchandise that was raffled off; this included Pudsey ears, bears and a money box. There was also a cake sale raffle. As ever, parents and carers were extremely generous in the cakes that were donated and every child that choose to buy a cake had the most ama

Pudsey pops in

On Wednesday 1st November we had a very special visitor in school - Pudsey Bear! He was welcomed into all of the classrooms with lots of waves and cheers from the children. He was very pleased to hear that the children already knew about Children in Need. They were able to talk about how dressing up and buying cakes last year helped lots of children who are less fortunate than themselves. Mrs Dyer and the School Council will be meeting shortly to finalise the arrangements for our Children in Need day and a letter will be sent to parents/carers very soon. Children in Need will be taking place on Friday 17th November this year. We hope you will be able to support this very worthy cause.
