Year 5 Healthy Relationships Workshop

Year 5 were quite fortunate to have 2 visitors from Break the Cycle come in and talk to them about healthy relationships and how to maintain them. We carried out a variety of different tasks where we had to work within small groups. Initially, we had to decide and discuss which people were close to us in our lives and then classify them by their importance e.g. mum, dad, distant cousins, policemen etc. This was followed with healthy and unhealthy statements which generated a lot of discussion within the year group e.g. peer pressure. The children had to decide whether each statement was healthy, unhealthy or both and be able to justify their reasons. We also looked at different scenarios chi

Year 1 park walk

Year 1 have recently enjoyed a cold walk around a local park to explore seasonal changes. The children used a range of senses to observe natural features and changes, listened carefully for common sounds and explored how the features felt; recording their findings in a table. All the children engaged in discussions about their experiences at the park and wrote sentences about their observations. This experience enabled the children to list nouns, adjectives and verbs related to the park during the winter and have used these words to create poems. The visit was a language rich experience that has enthused the children in learning about winter as well as inspiring them to draw and paint winter

Basketball Competition

Team Friars were at the Basketball competition this January, in what was the biggest Basketball competition to date held for Southend Primary Schools. The team started well topping their group, playing some excellent games and displaying their unique team spirit. The second round was also successful, resulting in Friars playing in the semi-finals of the event. Unfortunately the team narrowly missed out on a place in the final losing by 1 basket. The team have worked hard on their game play and skills over the past few months and their efforts were seen in a day of fantastic basketball. Well done Team Friars.

One pupil rolls the Dice and the number rolled relates to the exercise we do. We then spin the hula hoop and perform the activity for the duration of the spin.

Year 3 Celts and Roman trip

Wow! What a day exploring the lives of the Celts and Romans. All the children enjoyed a fun packed day which included time in the museum, exploring artefacts and completing activities, recreating a Celtic round house and Roman villa and an underground story tour of the roman invasion and the story of Boudicca. During the interactive story tour, the children learnt that the Romans won because of their superior tactics and weaponry. As they moved through different tunnels, they heard the story of Boudicca and how she defeated the Romans at Colchester before she was defeated at a later date. When exploring the museum, there were opportunities for the children to try on and handle artefacts, whi
