KS1 Celebration assembly
Well done to the children receiving key word certificates this week. Our achievement leaf winners were nominated by their teachers for great reasons such as super all round effort, progress in phonics, perseverance and having a brilliant attitude to their work. UPDATE: Our link with Atlanta school
After our wonderful week learning about Chinese New Year, 6B created a short film to send to the American children in Atlanta. The students explained that our week started with a visit from a Chinese dragon and they shared their thoughts on our Chinese inspired lunch menu. Some of the class also showed their Chinese lanterns and explained how they worked using their knowledge of simple circuits from year 4. Yr 3/4 Football
Last week 16 Year 3 and 4 Boys braved the Arctic conditions to take part in a football match between themselves.
The Blues took on the Purples in an evenly matched game which was played in good spirits. In the end the Purple team came out winners 2-0 with goals from George and Max.

KS1 Football tournament
Team Friars mixed KS1 Football Team were at the Southend Football event at The Len Forge Centre. The team battled through the cold and wind playing some great football against other local schools. There were some amazing goals and even better celebrations by our young players. Well done.

Chinese New Year celebrations
Chinese New Year was brought to life at Friars Primary School and Nursery when they were visited by a real Chinese Dragon. The children were treated to a traditional dragon dance which was accompanied by loud rhythmic drumming. During the dance, the children fed the dragon with red envelopes containing a silver coin and one child got to feed the dragon a cabbage which it promptly spat out all over them! Cyber Safety
On Wednesday 6th February, Stuart from Essex Fire Brigade (who also liaises with Essex Police) visited Year 6 to go through cyber safety with them. With the children, Stuart spoke about how to keep themselves safe when using social media, their use of privacy settings, not sharing too much personal information online - after all they wouldn't give out personal information to people on the street - and what their digital footprint is. Table Tennis team
The Friars Table Tennis Team have been working on their Umpiring skills this season and we are proud to say that so far we now have 8 certified Table Tennis England Junior Umpires in KS2.
The qualification required pupils to complete written test to check their understanding of the sports rules and to be assessed umpiring games.
