Year 6 Southend Week

The Southend week children started their week of exciting activities with a day at school. In the morning they went on a photography scavenger hunt around the school. The teams had to work together to locate a range of objects including a frog! They then worked with a green screen to create imaginative photographs of themselves in unexpected places.

During this activity, some children helped Mrs Shuttleworth to make Malteser cake, which they all enjoyed very much in the afternoon whilst watching a movie. Each of the children also took part in a healthy cooking session with Mrs Shuttleworth and Miss Barrick. The students peeled, chopped, grated and cooked their way to a yummy chicken stir fry with cauliflower rice.

We ended the day playing some competitive rounds of Kahoot on the Ipads. On Wednesday, the children travelled to the seafront by minibus. Here we played at Adventure Mini Golf before heading across the road for whippy ice-creams with flakes! All of the children enjoyed their time playing golf and whilst most were happy to just be having a go, Mr Telling made sure his group took it seriously and kept score! Jamie Hickmore’s perseverance was wonderful to see and he was much improved by the end of the course.

Once we arrived at Southchurch park, we found a spot by the lake to eat our lunches. After that, the children played football and cricket on a large field. To end the day, we went over to the play area. The children had a great time on the assortment of swings and climbing frames.

We started Thursday morning, with a quick film before making our way to Kids Kingdom. Once there, the children headed straight for Jelly Mountain. They had a fun-filled couple of hours bouncing around and running through the soft play areas. Our next stop of the day was Sun Lee by Shoeburyness train station where the children had the opportunity to get a portion of chips. We ate these on the way to East Beach, where we found a quiet spot to enjoy the rest of our lunches. Soon after arriving, some children played football and cricket whilst others played on the equipment. Our final day took us to Adventure Island. Many of the children were extremely brave and went on the new ride- the Axis. This absolutely petrified the adults who struggled to even watch!

Eventually the rain forced us inside to eat our lunch. After a much needed rest and chance to dry off, the children went on the rides in Adventure Inside and ventured into the soft play area.

Soon enough the rain stopped and we were able to spend the last 30 minutes outside. However, just as some children were going on their last ride, the rain started to pour once again. Miss Barrick and Hannah got off a rollercoaster absolutely soaked to find that a few others had got ‘stuck’ on a ride during the downpour! Despite the weather, the children really loved their day at Adventure Island and for many it was the highlight of the week.
