World Book Day

What a jam packed week this was!

At an assembly the week before, the children were introduced to the events that would be taking place and the 500 word competition was introduced to the children. Each child was asked to write a story of 500 words, they didn’t have to worry to much about grammar and punctuation but the stories needed to be interesting and exciting, humorous or intriguing – the stories needed to catch the reader’s imagination.

The prize for the winning stories would be a once in a lifetime experience – the winner from Key Stage 2 would become principal for the day; the winner from Key Stage 1 would become vice-principal for the day. They would be given a full day of duties that they would be expected to carry out.

The winning stories from each class were chosen by the children, which were then passed to a panel of judges. The winners were Finley Armour 6B from Key Stage 2 and Alabama Miller 1Bfrom Key Stage 1. They can look forward to a day of principal and vice-principal duties.

The week of book week was a great success. During the week, classes from the difference key stages read to each other, sharing stories and talking about books; classes continued to read their class reading books and English lessons were about producing excellent story writing.

After school, parents/carers and children were able to visit our visiting book fair. This was a great opportunity to purchase books and also raise a small percentage for the school which can be used to purchase new resources for the school.

On Thursday, Mrs. Stephens created a special book themed lunch which included James and the Giant Hotdog and James and the magic ‘baked’ beans.

Friday was the culmination of a week of book based activities where children and staff dressed up as characters from books. There was Harry Potter, the stick man, Elsa, Hermione Granger to name but a few.

It was a brilliant end to the week.
