At Friars Primary School and Nursery, we are lucky to have our own purpose built nursery class. Our setting is spacious and calm, with access to a very large, exciting outdoor area which is open whatever the weather!

Children join our nursery the term after they are 3. We work closely with our families to give their children the very best, settled and positive start to life here at Friars!   We currently have three intakes per year in September, January and April.

Our provision in Nursery is excellent. We have a skilled and experienced team including nursery teachers, a nursery nurse and nursery assistant who are experts in the care and education of young children. Our children are at the heart of all we do, and we use their interests and fascinations as the inspiration for all learning and development. Teachers travel from far and wide to learn from our practice across the Nursery, Reception and into Year 1.

We focus on the prime areas of learning by developing your child’s personal, social and emotional skills. This will help them to feel confident and to achieve their potential in all areas of learning. We will nurture their communication and language skills and encourage their physical development through fun, play based activities. We will also introduce the children to the specific areas of learning, which are literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.


During your child’s time in the Nursery we will record many of their achievements through a ‘Learning Journey’, which is a working document that records your child’s development. Parents and carers are welcome to contribute to this at any time by sharing ‘Wow Moments’ with us, or letting us know special achievements during our fortnightly stay and play sessions.
