If you have any questions or concerns about your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact Miss Blake, Attendance Officer on 01702 294837 or by emailing

Good attendance and punctuality are something we promote strongly at Friars Primary School and Nursery, instilling a lifelong habit and ensuring that children grow up with the correct attitude in their future lives, both at school and in their work. We monitor our children's attendance closely. Our attendance officer will contact you if we feel there is a problem and we will support you in rectifying this.

Absence Procedure

If your child is absent for any reason, you should let us know by telephoning the school 01702 294837 or emailing

on the morning of absence.  Please provide your child's name, class and reason for absence.  Please also keep us updated if the absence continues into the following day.

We encourage all appointments to be made outside of the school day. However, if your child is absent from school due to an appointment, please provide the school office with a letter or appointment card so the absence can be recorded accordingly.

Lateness at the start of the day

When a child arrives late at the start of the school day, it is very disruptive to their learning and the learning of their classmates.

Please ensure your child arrives for school between 8.30am and 8.45am

Our school day starts promptly at 8.45am

Holidays in term time

Any absence from school can be very disruptive to a child’s education, and they may miss out on work which they find impossible to catch up on.

A two week holiday in term time every year your child is in primary school is equivalent to your child missing 14 weeks of schooling - an entire term!

If you still wish to take your child out of school during term time please complete a 'leave of absence' form and return it to the school office at least one month before the dates requested. Only under exceptional circumstances will the leave be authorised by Mr McClay or Mr Roche and this is completely at their discretion.

You may be issued with a penalty notice if your child misses too much school. Please see our attendance policy for more information.
