Isle of Wight 2019
On Monday 3rd June, Year 6 set forth once again for the annual residential trip to the Isle of Wight. Again, they stayed at St. Michael’s Hotel in the Sandown, where the company was great, the food was amazing and every single child (well almost) was asleep by 11:00pm.
The journey down was obstacle free and we arrived on the island in time to visit the beach before dinner and were able to return again after dinner.
Tuesday morning was at Alum Bay where the children watched sweets and glass being made. The sweets – candy floss flavour – were delicious, the final object created from the glass blowing was as exquisite as ever. The children also had the opportunity to fill an object of their choice with coloured sand.
After lunch, we travelled down the coast to do some fossil hunting in the rain. It always rains when we go fossil hunting. The children were eager to discover what fossils to look for and quickly found lots of samples….that is why their luggage weighed more on the coach on the way back home!
Thursday morning was spent at the Monkey Sanctuary and Owl Haven where we were treated to a real spectacle from the howler monkeys.
Godshill Model Village was the destination in the afternoon. The model village is great but the shop and ice-creams really hit the spot.
Thankfully, we had brilliant weather for our all day trip to Robin Hill, where the children went on rides, witnessed a bird show, climbed trees, played football, travelled on a slide, went on a toboggan run and ate ice-cream, candy floss and chips a plenty. Thursday was finished off with the disco.
Friday’s journey home was not quite as smooth. We had already had our 10:00 sailing moved to 2:00 and we were then delayed another hour. The crossing was a little rough but everyone coped with it admirably. Our fantastic coach driver had the most amazing bag of films and with MacDonald’s for tea on the way home, we finally arrived back at about 7:15. The children had put up with a lot of waiting on the way back but were brilliant with their behaviour.
Another successful, fun-filled week.
